Another beat of the Drum

Mike was round last night for beer and pizza - well, no beer for me as I'm on painkillers :( - and anime. He saw the photos of Saturday's event and was disappointed to have missed it. So, a quick check of the weather forecast, and I offered to head back to Drum Castle to see Fraser's Dragoones again. National Trust for Scotland membership has its privileges.

Today's skirmish was dramatic again, with the Royalists having a surprise win.

Some clever film students had the same idea as us. Mike couldn't resist chatting to them about the gear they were using.

Sound monkey moving into shot - but I had plenty of similar photos, so no loss to me.

Why can't all saltires have messages on them?

Great shots, Aktoman. Your new camera is a stunner.

Thanks, Sol. The 5-200mm lens is a great help - as is having a 2gig card to store all the photos that aren't worth posting.

Glad you enjoyed it so much - I certainly did - loved the verbal slanging - will have to bring the recorder next time so you can have dialogue!!

;-)

What slanging? Oh, the historically accurate shouts. I liked when the 'coward' broke ranks and legged it. The officer dragged him back in line, and reminded him that he was "protected by the armour of God".

Great stuff. This lot look a bit more 'regular'. But shouldn't they have pike support? Sword and buckler men would go through them like goose fat. And let's not think about cavalry!

There was a 2-3 man pike block. They did try recruiting some children, and ran them through various postures.

As to cavalry - none present. Being dragoones, the nags probably died on the way to the castle. Just don't ask what was in the stew.

For a change, no kilted folk, and no hint of an Irish accent amongst the attackers during the skirmish.

"recruiting some children, and ran them through" - unusually vivid for re-enactors! ;o)

not the sort of postures you're thinking about ya perve.

Surely you know of De Gheyn's postures of pike.
