Tipi Tarp - take 3

Not quite got the hang of it, but close enough for nephew and niece to start playing in it. I'm still left with about a foot of one corner out in the air and relying on the regular guyline, but it is calm inside the tarp. Except for two kids playing hide-and-seek with the mosquito netting.

Possibly you may need to lay hands on sectional poles, possibly carbon. The other alternative is to find a couple of old hex poles, snip the inside elastic and add another section to one of them. That way you could make a pole to fit exactly the height you need.

I have an extendible goLite pole that Darren gave me, and was looking to lower the height to allow the tarp edges to hug the ground. I did that after taking the photo, pegging out through the loops instead of the guylines I'd added to the loops.

It's currently out in the evening monsoon. It was quite dry inside when I checked last, and my parents' cat was enjoying the shelter. I'll take it in for the night - the tarp, not the cat.

Especially after some thieving bstrds nicked the reflec bands from their gateposts. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Better take the cat in as well, just in case. Am away again tonight. Overnight buses heading north.

Have a nice trip. And watch out for the weather as there's a couple of lows in the Atlantic that are cycling the weather fronts around the west coast. Warm though, and not much wind here.

Tipi Man sounds.....odd not as good as Akto Man. Leave it at home.

Nothing wrong with tipis Martin, my hex has proved itself worthy. Duncan, it looks like I am going to get a few thunder storms and a bit of heavy rain. Ah well, if it gets hot and muggy I shall just stick to shorts and a waterproof coat.

Tipis are found in John Wayne films not Scotland - your spoiling my preconfigured and narrow minded view of tipis. Plus they look ugly.

For tall folk like me, "tipi's" are ideal. If I can find one wider than a Hex3, I'll buy it in an instant.

As for them not being found in Scotland, tell that to a certain Mr Townsend.

Big Kev, there now is a hex four, re shangri la 4, much bigger.

Darren, the pole for the shangri la 4 is longer too.

Dawn, the Shangri La 4 is on my wish list :o)
