Tense science

The large hadron collider is on and the beam is getting halfway round. It is fun watching journalists on bbc news 24 report on something that they aren't sure about. Without the scare stories, would anyone be watching apart from some science geeks?

Beam has got all the way round ... and that is the end of the live coverage on BBC News 24 on television. I'm off to Radio 4 and wonder at the incongruity of the more modern medium not covering it as well as they have a wider brief than the older, senior service of radio.

"...and the Internet came out of that."
Said the BBC News 24 presenter to the scientist who was talking about CERN's creation of the World Wide Web in the 20th century.
