Nice tripod, are you going to carry it when you're camping or is it for photo only jaunts?
At almost 2 AktoMasses, it's for car and short treks (like these). I took a heavy tripod out on an overnighter, and it was way too heavy. I tried fixing it to my pack with bungy cords and it struggled. I'm still uncomfortable with packing the Canon EOS 350d with me.
Hi Duncan, great shots, I really like the shallow DOF in "Frozen puddles and pools" you can't do that with a compact. If I were you I'd take the DSLR all the time even if it is 0.5 Aktomasses ;-). I suppose you'd still want to carry a compact for video though.
Thanks, Mac. I've taken the dSLR out a couple of times on overnighters, and I've been careful. In the end, the few better depth-of-field shots have been fun, but hindered my hiking. I think if I'm going out to take photos, that's what I'm doing. If I go out to enjoy the landscape and get some miles under my feet, then that's what I'm doing.
Until I get better at both, maybe. I think it's like those people you see on telly at concerts, recording the concert on their mobile phones, they are (IMO) missing part of the moment. When I try and figure out what shot I want to "capture the moment", I am stepping out of that moment, and am, therefore, separate from it.
Or is it just that I haven't had much sleep over the past few days ;-)
I think I know what you mean (is that a good thing I wonder??);-)
LOL.
I hope to get some shots in of the BushBuddy that I have on loan. I'm amazed at how much home-made work you've managed to put in to create something similar. Kudos.
LOL, well it kept me out of mischief for a while, I find that browsing ebay is expensive :-)
