Love this AND Fairytale. The depressing ones are the best. And uplifting too somehow. June Tabor's version is even more heart-wrenching. Used to work with her in Hornsey Library at the time Airs & Graces came out.

Of course, Fairytale was the one most people would have expected upon pressing play. I hate being obvious :)

Back from weekend break - bought Joan Baez remastered from prob only record outlet on N. Norfolk coast - damn me if she hasn't also recorded Waltzing Matilda. THIS IS THE MOST DEPRESSING VERSION EVER!

I have a memory of the tune being used for a song about being a soldier in High Germany. Not sure if it came from the time of Old Fritz, or was a modern take on it.
