Guess who bought two christmas prezzies today? Bargain stock in Makro!!
LOL - I fought the urge to get the Broons 1939 album when I was in Waterstones/Dillons today
Bugger me, this is depressing. Bah, humbug...
There's only one Pogues song that will do in this case...play
Love this AND Fairytale. The depressing ones are the best. And uplifting too somehow. June Tabor's version is even more heart-wrenching. Used to work with her in Hornsey Library at the time Airs & Graces came out.
Of course, Fairytale was the one most people would have expected upon pressing play. I hate being obvious :)
As to June Tabor, well, I'd never heard of her. I followed some links to fix that:

Back from weekend break - bought Joan Baez remastered from prob only record outlet on N. Norfolk coast - damn me if she hasn't also recorded Waltzing Matilda. THIS IS THE MOST DEPRESSING VERSION EVER!
I have a memory of the tune being used for a song about being a soldier in High Germany. Not sure if it came from the time of Old Fritz, or was a modern take on it.
